Knights of Columbus Patuxent Council No. 2203 supports the Catholic Church and the Laurel, MD. community.
With charity, we save lives, and we change lives! Ask us how, today!
Happy New Year! We’re now halfway through the current Fraternal Year, but we have a lot
of stuff ahead of us as we move through our winter and spring calendar! Before we know it,
we’ll be at the end of June! Please find something to help with – many hands make light work.
You should have received your dues renewal notice by now, along with the Survey of Fraternal Activity. Please pay
your dues ASAP (by 31 January, please!) and please fill in & return your Survey to PGK Jimmy Williams by 21 January
so we can compile all inputs and submit our report on time. St. Mary’s School classes provided more than 20 signed
Christmas Cards for Troops. Cards were distributed to forward deployed military personnel and wounded personnel
in military hospitals. Our Coats for Kids giveaway started with the Santa with a Badge program on 7 December. We provided six
boxes of coats to the Laurel Police Department that day – helping to outfit a number of kids at the initial event and
then turning the rest of the coats over to the LPD for further distribution as they find kids in need.
Our Family of the Month selections for November & December were, respectively, the Jim & Bridget Shute family
and the Brother Ted (Council Advocate) & Mary Ellen Gambogi family. Our Council Christmas Party on Saturday 7 December
was a lot of fun! If you missed it, you might want to put it on your to-do list for next year. A highlight of the evening
was the brief talk by Seminarian Braden Lynch, son of PGK Rob Lynch. He gave us a glimpse of his journey to
and in the seminary at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg. We also enjoyed the “give & take” gift exchange
and a numbers trivia game! Our Novena for Life is coming up so watch your e-mail for more info via my weekly Council Updates.
All who have served the parish over the past year are invited to attend the Parish Appreciation Dinner/Dance
on Saturday evening, 25 January in the Monsignor Keesler Parish Center. Please RSVP no later than 20 January to the
parish office. Finally, the City of Laurel kicked off its 150th Anniversary celebration on Monday, 13 January. The Laurel Museum
is building an exhibit of 150 items from Laurel’s 150 years. Patuxent Council has lent the Museum one item
representing our Council as we celebrate 100 Years since we were instituted. The exhibit opens on 2 February and I
encourage all to visit!
